Every year, manga and anime fans descend on Barcelona for one of Europe’s biggest events. The city wanted to make the festival stand out, turning Barcelona into a living set where augmented reality brought scenes from beloved stories to life across streets and squares.

This transformed the city into an interactive playground. Locals and tourists alike could discover hidden AR moments, making the festival more playful, immersive and unforgettable — a way to explore Barcelona through the lens of anime.

Barcelona became a playground for anime and manga fans, with scenes inspired by iconic worlds woven seamlessly into the city’s streets, squares and landmarks. Instead of using characters directly, the city brought the spirit and energy of anime to life through playful, immersive environments that let fans step into the stories they love.
Through augmented reality, these inspired scenes came alive in an interactive way. Visitors could unlock experiences with their devices, capture moments, and share them instantly on social media, turning each discovery into a communal celebration and extending the festival’s magic far beyond the city itself.
